We do offer a lot for free with Business Directory plugin. The core plugin has a great deal of functionality to get you started with a directory at no cost to you.
Not everyone offers PayFast for free–Gravity Forms and Easy Digital Downloads charge for their payment gateways as well,, as does one of our competitors.
Our PayFast module, like the other payment gateways, is a premium add on that we offer to allow you to collect payments for your listings. We have premium modules because that’s how we’ve been able to continually offer high-quality, responsive support for the past 7 years and plan to do so in the future as well as add new features and upgrade the plugin every year.
Offering everything for free is not sustainable for us (or really, anyone else) since at the end of the day, we all have to put some food on the table and a roof over our head.
You are welcome to implement your own gateway if you have the skills and time to do so by modeling it after our Authorize.net gateway included in the plugin for free. However, I think you’d find that doing so is far more work and hassle than just purchasing the module for a modest cost of $60.

WooCommerce is something on our list to add as soon as we’re done with our current release where we’re revamping the submit listing workflow to smooth out the payment and registration experience.
It’s not available today but it’s something we definitely plan to add.

Right now, the main search page does a full page request to pull back results. There are many AJAX features on the site–such as updating region lists as you select them and updating ratings. Advanced Search is currently not one of them.
