• My site loads like it’s on a dialup connection–lots of waiting for the server to respond. It’s hosted on Godaddy because I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that big equals good infrastructure. I’ve had other people try it and they report the same slow response. I tried deactivating some plugins, but they didn’t seem to help much. Is perhaps godaddy’s shared mysql approach a bottleneck. Is there something i can do to speed this puppy up. Should I look for a different hosting company?

  • Is this about the magazine site you mentioned in another post?
Yes, it sure is slow! Well over a minute to load.

You might start by experimenting with commenting out (or disabling) various elements on the page. For instance, it seemed like the slide show was what was taking up all the time.

If you have Firefox, you might grab the Firebug extension. It has a “Net” mode that you can use to see the size and time involved with page elements when loading.

Yup, same magazine. I use firebug all the time (though it seems to make firefox a bit unstable on the mac). I’ll give that a try let you know what i find.
