How to achieve custom permalinks to be different from the PostName?

It seems to be common sense that the name of your Post or Page should be different from the permalink.
The actual name of the post is the first thing users see. It should be longer, more descriptive; could include lots of prepositions, elaborate phrases, possibly humor etc., meaning, it often needs to be longer to make sense linguistically.

Which is the opposite for permalinks. Links should be a shorter summary, include certain keywords, and exclude prepositions and figures of speech.

If we are to write for humans, it makes more sense to almost never have the permalink and title of your post to be the same, because that kind of repetitiveness is a useless waste of time, and therefore is a turn off for most people, even if subconsciously.

What is the way to stop WP from automatically turning the Post/Page’s Headline into the permalink?

    Thank you.

  • Then how would someone find your post if it is not sorted by title?

Both should include the main keyword of the post.

But URL could be shorter, often the keyword only,
as opposed to the Headline, which is not only the keyword, but should be something more interesting. Because it is your best chance to grab your potential client’s, attention and keep them one more second longer.

Is it possible to make the title of the post, and the URL of the post differ at least to some degree?
Thank you, your help is greatly appreciated.

Um, when you edit a post, there’s a title bar and below that there’s the permalink or “slug” as I think it’s called. When you type in a post t itle for the first time, WordPress will make that the exact permalink. Like “My New Blog Post” to “my-new-blog-post.” After that, you can change the permalink to like “blog-post” or “post101.” I do this all the time.

Is that what you are trying to do?

    Yes, thank you.
I hope the fact that wp keeps automatically renaming it to the default /%postname%/ in the beginning is not a problem eventually, after the post/page is finished and is published.
    I appreciate your help.

Type in a title and save the draft. Edit the permalink and save the draft again. Do this a couple of times. Does the permalink stop changing?
