    Hi,

    I am a WP newbie.
I wish to change the permalinks setting from “plain” to “custom structure” with /%category%/%postname%/. However, after i save change the setting, all my pages (about, blog, contact etc) ended up redirect back to my home page.

All my plugins, theme are up to date and I’ve tried to deactivate all the plugins but still the problem exist. So i thought i might need another plugin to do so, therefore i add in the “Redirection” plugin, but still it goes back the same result.
For those expert in WP, your assist is highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Failure to utilize permalinks is usually related to the inability of WP to alter your .htaccess file. Usually because it does not have adequate write permission on the file. You can set permission through FTP or your hosting file manager. Usually 644 is correct. In some cases 664 may be necessary.

You might want to note the current permissions, change it and establish permalinks, then restore the original permissions after WP writes the rules it needs.
