I’m trying to change my permalinks to “post name” but each time I select that option, I get this error message:

You should update your .htaccess now.

    and:

If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.

I did what was asked of me in the .htaccess file, and my whole site went bright white. :gasp: so I deleted that and went back to using the default setting, but that’s not very helpful for sharing links with others.

  • Sounds like you created an error in the .htaccess file. What did you use to create and edit it?

using Fetch, I edited the .htaccess file in text edit

the .htaccess file seems to be fixed now as the site is back up, but the permalinks still don’t work. do you think it’s a permissions problem?

That’s not normally a problem. Are permissions set to 644? Check with your hosts that mod_rewrite is running on your server.
