Permalinks??

Hi – I want to set the property page to one I have created, but it says I need to enable Permalinks to do this. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Permalinks were enabled by default in WordPress? If you mean enable “Custom” permalinks, I tried doing this, but every time I save the changes it reverts back to ‘Default’ permalinks?

Could you help please?
