  • Hello,

Please note that in the free version of this plugin, you cannot open the categories page.

Also, are the downloads not working? Do you get a 404 even when you access a download link?

Ok thats fine but the problem is that it dont use permalinks in the sitemap and create alot of 404 errors when Google crawling the site!

    Hello,

Can you share the exact URL for which you are getting 404?

This url is picked from my sitemap.xml https://mlcnordic.se/?dlm_download_category=anvandarmanual

Solved it with erasing each category that was created.
To be honest its stupid to have it possible to create categories if its not featured in the free version of DLM!

    Hello,

The category option is provided so you can use shortcode to display downloads that belong to a specific category. If you are getting 404 errors, then it means your sitemap creation or SEO plugin is adding those links in your sitemap and you need to remove it.

If so then please explain why i get nice permalinks in download url when i remove categories? As soon i add a category and use it for a download my nice permalink is gone!
Now im only talking about admin area because in the public area my permalink is good.
And to blame SEO plugin is to make it a bit to easy for you because that is not the problem when all pages show nice permalinks except DLM links in the sitemap.xml.

    Hello,

Can you please let me know what you mean by “get Nice Permalinks” in download URL?

Adding a download category has no impact on the URL of a download. I’m bit confused so if you can share more details with examples or screenshot, then I could better understand you.

If i create Användarmanual as category it will render a url in the sitemap.xml like
https://mlcnordic.se/?dlm_download_category=anvandarmanual you also see this link in adminpanel for categories in adminpanel all download manager where you see all downloads.
    My download link would be
    https://mlcnordic.se/download/användarmanual/mydownload.pdf
If i try to use https://mlcnordic.se/?dlm_download_category=anvandarmanual it would render me a 404. So why would DLM render this link if categories is not featured in the free version? Its not my SEO plugin that decide to show this link when all other links in my sitemap is like https://mlcnordic.se/mypage/something

    (@gosta)

If you look at my sitemap.xml at https://mlcnordic.se/sitemap.xml
There you find the link to category: https://mlcnordic.se/?dlm_download_category=anvandarmanual
If categories is not featured in your free DLM why is it in my sitemap? My SEO plugin don’t make any decision if something is featuered or not in your plugin! And second problem is that its render https://mlcnordic.se/?dlm_download_category=anvandarmanua and not the permalink https://mlcnordic.se/download/anvandarmanual. If i add anvandarmanual as permalink when i create a category it should be used too.

    Hello,

First, you will need to specify in your SEO plugin to not add the “Downloads Category” to the sitemap. This is not done automatically. You will need to do this yourself.

Secondly, you should not use the same name for a download and also a category which will cause the issue. Please use different names.

Why would i need to to do that in my SEO plugin if categories is not featured in your free version? Its your plugin that tell WP theres categories in use……
And im not have the same name for categories and downloads!

Regardless of whether it’s RIGHT or WRONG Gosta, if you are using Yoast SEO you can exclude the Download Categories (dlm_download_category) from the sitemaps by going to:

    • WP Admin > SEO > Search Appearance
    • Then set “Show Download Categories in search results?” to ‘No’

If you want to remove your existing results from Google’s results you can do so via your Search Console account.
