Permalinks keep breaking
-
Our permalinks break every day. If we try to activate ocean extra it’s a guarantee to break the permalinks. If ocean extra is deactivated, the permalinks break regularly at 4 PM, even though no one is changing the site in the hours before. An activity log plugin is showing no changes during the time.
We have tried deactivating every plug in, and slowly checking results. Even with every plugin deactivated (but we still have the ocean theme), the permalinks break. This problem started about a month ago.
Elementor is insisting this isn’t their problem, but a compatibility issue with Ocean. Siteground (our host) is also insisting it isn’t them. The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hello @techunicorn,
I fully examined the issue you have raised on this topic and was unable to replicate it on my end, and no similar issues have been reported by other users to this moment.
Unfortunately, the information provided in this thread in regards to the problems you are facing are insufficient for troubleshooting purposes and a possibility to understand the reason why this is happening on your end.
Kindly share the following info that could help us understand the issue you described better and hopefully help you resolve it:
1. Detailed explanation of the issue you are experiencing; when did you first notice the problem occurring (after a particular update, using a specific device, etc), as well as the steps of you take that trigger the issue in case the problem is not constantly present on your website, especially on the frontend. You can attach screenshots or a short video of the issue.
2. Explain to us step by step how we can reproduce the issue so we can recreate it somewhere other than your website.
You can upload your files using one of the following online services:
https://postimages.org
https://imgbb.com
https://loom.com
https://drive.google.com3. Kindly provide us with your system environment information. If you’re running Elementor, navigate to Elementor > System Info in your WP dashboard.
You can send the information as code here or upload them to http://pastebin.com/ and get an exclusive link.
Before sending these, please make sure that:
Everything on your website is running the latest versions (WP, theme, plugins).
If possible, perform a basic troubleshooting checkup method and make sure the issue is related to our theme or plugin(s). To do this, deactivate all other plugins then activate them one by one and check for this issue. Continue doing this until you find what product is causing a conflict with our product. Then provide the details as explained above.Note: if you have any cache plugin or server cache(CDN / Browser Cache and Cookies and …), you need to clear its cache contents or disable them to see your changes.
Please keep us posted.
Thank you,
Best RegardsThanks. I'll explain step by step as much as possible. The problem is that we can't see rhyme or reason for the permalinks breaking, though there are a few things that are guaranteed to break the permalinks. Is it also possibel that permalinks are breaking only for certain countries? Reason: we ran a campaign and our office staff in Israel saw the links broken at 16:00, but we had successful registrations from other parts of the world after that (which couldn't have happened if they saw the landing page for the first time.)
We moved to Siteground in Sept, which has a terrible cache system. We started noticing the permalinks breaking in Dec., after having gotten in the habit of constantly having to flush the cache, in order to see any change live - and we had the experience of some countries seeing the changes and others not (so we deactivated CDN, and all cache of siteground.) This solved cache problems, but not the other problems. December saw a lot of problems suddenly come to the forefront, pages reverted to old versions, constant prompts if we left a page (even if we just saved it), constant messages that there were newer versions of the pages we were working on, in addition to the permalinks frequently breaking, and we systematically deactivated and tested all of the plugins one by one, and narrowed down the issue to ocean extra. Problems are significantly reduced if this plug in is deactivated, but the permalink issue is still there.
I had not noticed, until Wednesday, that our theme version needed to be updated, and I took care of that on Wednesday, hoping that could solve all the issues. Unfortunately, hours later, even though everything had been fine, the permalinks suddenly broke after no changes having been made on the site. It breaks about once a day, despite no changes having been made.

Generally, it is not possible to break permalinks only for certain countries.
This may happen because of the ISP cache, or some browser extensions or even cache on the server may cause this problem. In this regard, did you talk to the hosting provider? What did they say?
I checked your website and didn’t notice any issue with permalinks. Can you tell me how to break this link? Are you getting an error? What is the error? Kindly share a screenshot or a short video from that issue.
We have not received any similar reports so far, and we can not reproduce that issue on our end. We need to know how we can replicate your steps to arrive at the issue on a fresh WordPress installation.
Best Regards
Hi,
We have brought this up repeatedly with our hosting provider. They are adamant that this isn’t their problem, though i believe two things are guaranteed to break the permalinks: about 80% of the site backups that siteground does (and they do it at random times during the day) and the activation and deactivation of Ocean Extra (100% of the time.)
We have asked them how to turn off the caching system altogether, and we have altered our htmaccess file to suspend all caching systems. Siteground does not have an ability to turn off it’s own caching system, which required us to manually flush the cache after every small change, to at least see what elementor was presenting on the back end.
We don’t get an error. All posts and pages other than the core home pages etc. simply present a news carousel along with the message that “it seems we can’t find this page” – this isn’t even my designed 404 page.Hello @techunicorn,
Unfortunately, the information on this topic still does not help us identify the issue. However, I will provide some troubleshooting items below, and please do them. I hope this solves the problem:
I. Suppose you moved from an old server or domain to the current server. Try to check all links and make sure all URLs and assets are on the current server or domain. This article will help you in this regard: https://elementor.com/help/i-changed-the-url-of-my-website-and-elementor-does-not-work-anymore/.
II. Although you may have modified the .htaccess file, the caching settings at SiteGround’s server level may override your changes. Double-check their control panel for any caching options and toggle them off completely.
Also, if their interface doesn’t offer a complete disable option, consider contacting their support again and emphasizing the urgency of totally bypassing their caching system for testing purposes.III. To confirm whether backups or Ocean Extra activations are indeed causing the issue, perform isolated tests: Deactivate and activate Ocean Extra while monitoring your website. If permalinks break at either instance, you’ve identified the plugin as the source. Try to test this on the staging website. And test this item without all other plugins(especially multilingual plugin).
IV. If you use a customized 404 page or use your way for 404 pages, ensure to disable it and testV. It’s entirely possible for file and folder permissions to cause 404 errors. Ensure access, reading, writing, or executing files and folders on a server are correct.
VI. Sometimes, the absence of HTTPS in your URLs and a change in SSL may cause such a problem, so it is necessary to make a short video when you get a 404 error and tell us how you resolve that error in that video.
With each change for the above steps, please save the permalinks again and completely clear the cache and cookies.
I hope it helps.
Best Regards
