Permalinks not working

    Hello you all!

    I have an issue with permalinks. This problem keeps coming back on all my wordpress websites over and over again. I usually fix it in classic links settings – click on “defult”, save and than back to “postname” and save – than it usually work for few weeks, but then it again starts showing 404 url not found. Have you happened to came across the same issue? Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it permanently?

    This could be some clue.

    Are all sites hosted on the same server, and if so, is there some hosting feature that can overwrite/update the .htaccess file every couple of weeks or months? Please speak with your hosting about that matter.

    Do all sites have additional admin accounts? For example, you have an agency, and you have additional devs who update those sites for your clients?

    For one of the sites, can you change the .htaccess file permission from 644 to 444 and observe if the issue comes back after a couple of weeks?

    Since you have an nginx web server, the .htaccess file normally plays no role whatsoever. However, you should definitely contact your host’s support team about this. They manage nginx for you and can also tell you how it is set up.
