Permalinks question
-
Hello all,
I’m new to using wordpress so it might be a lame question but was not able to find the solution by my own.
Here is the scenario. I’m trying to migrate and existing website to wordpress. Current website engine uses URL format similar to what wordpress offers.
We have now links like this
http://www.mydomain.com/post_name/post_id
so i used in wordpress the permalinks syntax to be /%postname%/post_id%
The problem is that in wordpress if you go to
http://www.mywordpressdomain.com/post_name/differetnt_post_id
it will make a 301 redirect to the correct URL
http://www.mywordpressdomain.com/post_name/post_idOn my current engine the website takes in mind only the post_id value and will direct you to
http://www.mydomain.com/post_name_of_differetnt_post_id/differetnt_post_id
I want to make wordpress display the post based on the post_id
currently if you try to access
http://www.mywordpressdomain.com/bad_post_name/post_id it will not display the post based on the post_id , no matter that such post exists, but will give you 404. I want to avoid that.
I hope i was clear enough.
P.S. additional comments that might be helpful
My main problem is that some of the post names of the current platform will be changed during the migration to wordpress. I know that when changing post_name inside wordpress itself it will automatically redirect http://www.mywordpressdomain.com/old_post_name/post_id to http://www.mywordpressdomain.com/new_post_name/post_id
But if you migrate from non wordpress platform http://www.mywordpressdomain.com/old_post_name/post_id will give 404
