Permanently Delete Posts/Pages

    Hello All,

    I have deleted a few posts, but they WILL NOT go away. I put them in the trash, and clicked on “permanently delete” and they still show up when I type in the URL.

    For example, This post on Amsterdam should be deleted:
    http://thehungrypartier.com/amsterdam/

    I am trying to write a new post about Amsterdam and I am forced to change the URL name otherwise I will get re-directed to this old post (that should be deleted).

    My new post is http://thehungrypartier.com/amsterdamm/ (notice Amsterdam is spelled with two ‘M’s?) This is frustrating because my SEO rankings go down if the URL is spelled wring.

    Does this make sense? Can anyone help me?

    Have you go the Database Login Details?

    If yes Login to phpMyAdmin
    Select your Database.
    Move to WP_Posts
    CTRL + F “The Page Title” the page you are looking to permanently delete.
    There may be few revisions and post id created.
    Deleted all the post ids related to the page.
    Now see if the page still opening or it’s 404 now.
    If it’s 404 now, then you can go to your dashboard again and create a new page.

    The page will have the desired url now (what you are looking for)

    Hi Drew,

    I hope you manage to delete the posts you want to, but I wondered, in the case of the Amsterdam post, why not just change the content? As far as I can see there is no need to delete it, all you have to do is update it.

    @WPMadeEasy- Yes, that would be fine.. But I already “permanently deleted” the original Amsterdam post, so I cannot retreive it.

    Who is your host. Have you been provided with cPanel details.

    Normally your cPanel log details are

    username : yourdomainname.com
    password: yourpassword

    Once logged into your cPanel you may go to “Database Tools” section.
    Click on phpMyAdmin.

    On the login page the username will already be filled, you just have to use your login password.

    Then follow the steps above.
