Persistent NextGen background activity using server cycles

I have NextGen 2.1.15 with NextGen Plus 1.3.5 running on our site to manage all our galleries. I also have a plugin called Stream to manage / monitor our site’s activities.

I am getting hundreds of records showing up in our activity stream related to NextGen. There seems to be an unknown background activity running on our server that I have no idea what it is and what is doing.

How do I turn this off. It seems to be using a lot of server cycles and clogging my Stream database.
