I reacted to soon. UM doesn’t block the visitors from reading the topics and replies. I had a mail conversation with UM but they say I have to work with shortcode.
However I have a theme that only gives me a nice homepage when I work with a BB press Page. When I use dhortcodes the page lloks like rubish.
Im not that good with coding and my only way out in fixing this problem is your plugin.
Please can ypu help me by looking to the problem above.

my help text says
All forum titles (and optionally descriptions) visible to both logged on and non-logged on users.
DESCRIPTION : Users and non-users will be able to see that group forums exist, but not access topics/replies.
POSSIBLE USAGE : show that lots of forums exist, with ability to go to “sign-up” page.
TO SET : Set visibility to public and set forums to public in each forum’s attributes (dashboard>forums).
Public forums titles (and optionally descriptions) visible to logged on and non-logged on users. Private forums set visible to logged on users
DESCRIPTION : Non-logged in will only see group forums that are public, but not access topics/replies. Logged in users will see and access topics/replies for Private Group forums that are set to public, private forums that have no groups set will be accessible to all logged in users, but private group forums that the user does not belong to will be hidden.
POSSIBLE USAGE : Show some group forums exists, whilst keeping others visible only for private groups. Allows rich display options for each group, and user.
TO SET : Set visibility to public and set any private forums to private in that forum’s attributes (dashboard>forums).
So if I understand your issue, the setting forums public, but making sure they have groups set against them will allow users to see that they exist.
If I have not understood, or if that is not what they do, then please do come back !!

What you undestand is what i love to have on my site. However that is not the problem at this time. In my opion the plugin ha s a bug.
If you have activated forum visibility above, then users without access will see forums headings and descriptions.
This is out off the Backend off the visibility tab. But this isn’t happening. I don’t see any forums at all. The text “no forums” apears.
When I make a group for 1 forum, only this forum can be seen by this user. The user can not see there are more forums where they can subscribe to. Other users see “no forums”.
When you are not logged in then you see “no forums”. Therefor I think there is a bug in the plugin.
But I have to say it’s a nice bug. When you don’t want your user see that there are more forums. Maybe this can be an option of the plugin.
ok, at this stage I think I need your settings to let me set it up on my test site.
can you go to
dashboard>settings>bbp private groups>plugin information
can you copy all the text into an email and send it to me via my website http://www.rewweb.co.uk – sorry if you post email addresses in here you get spammed for a week !
Thanks
ok, I have re-reading this topic.
I think the issue is with the word ‘private’
Wordpress has (and bbpress uses this) the concept of public, private and hidden.
in WordPress/bbpress Public means those not logged in will see, Private means those logged in will see, Hidden means only admins and moderators see.
Now to make my plugin as flexible as possible, I make any ‘public’ forums that have groups assigned only available to those groups, in effect making them ‘private to groups’
This then lets me use the ‘visibility’ setting to tempt users.
So if instead of :
If you have activated forum visibility above, then users without access will see forums headings and descriptions.
if this section said
If you have activated forum visibility above
then for forums that are ‘public’ with groups set : NON-LOGGED IN users and all users without group access will see forums headings and descriptions
then for forums that are ‘private’ with groups set : all LOGGED IN users without group access will see forums headings and descriptions.
would that make more sense?

Hello Robin,
Logged in users don’t see your private group forums. I can only see No forums. With visibility they don’t appear for logged in users.
Greetings Ton
ok, it all works on my test site – I can only imagine that it is one of the other plugins that is affecting it – probably Ultimate Member – bbPress 1.1.7, as I presume that would be hiding stuff.
I’d suggest as a test that you disable all plugins except bbpress and private groups and check if the functionality works. If so add one at a time back and see which is affecting – once we know this I might be able to work out a filter.

Hello Robin,
New info, after hours of looking. It seems to be situated in de widget (PG) forum list.
The forums are visible on the forums page but they are missing on the widget. The ones wich are missing are the ones wich I didn’t allow to let being seen.
To be 100% sure I installed the BBpress (twenty ten) theme, but no changes to the story.
It must be in the widget.
Greetings Ton
@ton70 – ok, I think I have just replicated – trouble with a test site is getting it clean enough to prove something !
let me kick a bit of code to see if I can correct !
I’ve just been thinking
If you simply want to show all forums, then the (bbp) forums widget will do what you want, and since clicking this will take them to whatever you set in visibility, it will hide the forum content
Can you see if this fixes your issue.

Hello Robin,
This doesn’t work for me. In your plugin you can choose which forums to be seen. This option isn’t there in The BBpress widget.
I have made clubs on my site, where members can be part of, I want them to see all clubs on my homepage but only the clubs where they are a member of will be seen on there clubpage. So it should be nice that there is an option to see all or only see the forums wich you are listed to.
Greetings Ton
