Hi @kiinasu,
Thank you so much for getting in touch and our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.
WP Google Maps currently only supports up to PHP 7 and unfortunately, PHP 8 is not yet supported.
We are currently working on support for PHP 8 which we will kindly apply to one of the future updates as soon as possible.
Well there were reports of users having trouble with php 8 but none mentioned the plugin disabling completely.
After checking the code, seems like it is intentionally disabled instead of just being a warning of: oh hey, we don’t really support php 8 right now, so some stuff might be broken. Half a year into the php 8 release this seems like a rather poor choice, but seems to be on par with the rest of the php community.
Hi again,
Thank you so much for getting back to us.
I spoke to our lead developer and this was done fundamentally to prevent any website downtime, as this is due to how our autoloader initializes core modules within the plugin.
At the moment, the autoloader functions unreliable with PHP 8, however, adding support for PHP 8 is at the top of our priority list. Unfortunately, delays were experienced due to our improved architecture in version 8.1 and above of WP Google Maps.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused, we hope to get this resolved as soon as possible.
