PHP code displays as text in the browser

My php code does not generate a form in the browser, it only shows as the raw code. Some suggested that I be sure PHP is installed on my server, and indeed it is. Another suggestion is that I uncomment the line in apache2.conf ‘Loadmodule PHP5…’ but I cannot find this line, it does not exist in /etc/apahce2/
What other option is there to make this code display properly in the browser?
