    Hello

This plugin causes an server error 500.

The hoster send me the following error details:

[Mon Mar 13 08:03:26.353775 2023] [fcgid:warn] [pid 597392] (104)Connection reset by peer: [client 45.8.148.60:0] mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server, referer: https://singha.ch/wp-admin/user-edit.php?user_id=4&wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2Fusers.php

    [Mon Mar 13 08:03:26.353828 2023] [core:error] [pid 597392] [client 45.8.148.60:0] End of script output before headers: user-edit.php, referer: https://singha.ch/wp-admin/user-edit.php?user_id=4&wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2Fusers.php

The error occures when somebody edits users – like editing the password or resetting a password.

By resetting the password in wordpress I got the following message:

Error establishing a database connection This means either the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect, or we can’t reach the database server on localhost. It could be that the database server of your hosting is down. Are you sure that username and password are correct? Are you sure that you entered the correct hostname? Are you sure that the database server is running? If you are unsure what these terms mean, you should rather contact your web hosting’s support. If you still need help, you can always visit the WordPress support forums.

We tried on several computers and internet connection. All the other plugins work fine.

It’s for 100 % the WP Mail SMTP because I deactivated all plugins and testet every single plugin.

When I send a test mail with WP Mail SMTP it’s loading for minutes till a 500 server error occures.

Do you know this error? What can I do?

    Hi @deflueck

Thanks for reaching out and we’re sorry to hear that you are experiencing a server error.

The error messages shared by your host don’t appear to specifically reference WP Mail SMTP. WP Mail SMTP itself doesn’t alter user passwords or reset passwords.

500 errors are typically server-related issues.

You can read more information about the error using the following links.

Could you please get in touch with your hosting support with that error information they should be able to resolve your issue.

Just in case your installation of WP Mail SMTP is corrupted, please delete then install a fresh copy. Also in case there is somehow a conflict with your theme or any custom code, please switch to a default WordPress theme.

Also, just for reference, what mailer are you attempting to integrate with? What happens if you try sending a test email using the default WordPress PHP mailer?

    Hi @innozoom

Please attempt the steps I mentioned to @deflueck and if they do not resolve the issue (or your website host doesn’t shed some light on the situation), please create a new support thread so that we can learn more about your specific setup.

    Hello @dakeg

Thank you very much for your inputs.

As I said, I have turned every single plugin on and off. The error only occurred with WP Mail SMTP.

I had already contacted the hoster regarding the 500 and after an analysis he said it must be the wordpress.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin. Also sending the test mail did not work – same problem – 500 error appears.

I have now been able to resolve it.
The problem was with the TLS and SSL option. I have changed from TLS to SSL.

    Ticket can be closed.

    Hi @deflueck

Thank you very much for getting back to us and for confirming what was causing the issue and the solution on your end.

    @innozoom

If you happen to be using the Other SMTP mailer as well, perhaps that setting change will resolve the issue for you.
