Hi! I’ve been using this plugin for a while without any issues. I went to update it today, and it took a very very long time. This has happened before, usually because WP has just frozen or something. I clicked again on the ‘updates’ button (which usually fixes the problem) and then got sent to a white screen with an error message that said something like “Site down for unscheduled maintenance, please check back in a minute” (I’ve never seen this before).

I refreshed the page about five minutes later, and get a different error message. I’ll just link my website below so you can see it. I can’t access the main website, /wp-admin, or anything like that.

Any ideas on what to do here? I’m pretty worried that the site’s screwed for good 🙁 thank you!

(PS Unfortunately I really know nothing at all about this kind of stuff. If it’s clearly a problem with my host or something, just let me know and I’ll quietly back out of the room.)

The “Site down for unscheduled maintenance, please check back in a minute” message can be displayed when updating plugins or WordPress itself. Usually an update takes only a few seconds so most users will not see the message.

The message you are seeing there is because something has gone wrong with the update and not all files were extracted from the zip archive correctly. This could be a one off or a potential a bug in WordPress.

You will need to manually remove the plugin by deleting the directory from wp-content/plugins and then re-install it.
