• Hi,

I’m running wordpress in a subdirectory on dotster. I’ve been getting the typical php4<->php5 error problems when attempting to activate php5 plugins, so I had dotster turn on php5. They’ve set php5 to run as a CGI application while retaining php4 as an apache module.

The problem is that my wordpress build still can’t find php5 on the server and continues to have the same errors. Dotster insists it’s a wordpress problem that they can’t troublesoot. I’ve checked out phpinfo which says the site is still in 4.4.9.

The htaccess fixes that I’ve found in the forums cause serious errors with the wordpress build, so I don’t think they solve the problem either.

Can anyone suggest another route for me to take? Thanks for any help.

    Jeff

Ugh. Try another support route. For example, if you put in a ticket before, try phone support or chat now – whatever other option they offer. (I haven’t checked.) Or if you only have ticket option, just put in another one. This time, don’t even mention WordPress – simply tell them that you’re having trouble getting PHP5 running on your server and need help. Good luck.

Did you ever resolve this problem? I’m going through this dance with Dotster right now. I’m curious if there’s any point or do I spend the time more wisely by looking into migrating to a new host.
    thanks,

I’m having the same problem with MyDomain. Has anyone found a solution?

I can’t remember the exact specifics, it was a while ago, but i contacted dotster and they explained how to fix it. I had to go to a control panel, turn on php5 and turn off php3. Not having turned off php3 was where my problem had been (it doesn’t work if they’re both on). I think the setting was under a cgi script control panel, or maybe it was under applications…. Hope this helps some.

Sorry to be late getting back to you on this. What solved the problem for me was turning php4 off completely. While both were supposed to be running, wordpress was being defaulted to php4. Or that’s what seemed to be the problem. The site started working correctly a few hours later.
