    My host provider company does not allow the use of php_uname() function from security reasons.
    Is it absolutely necessary to the functionally of the plugin or only to it’s installation?
    I’m asking b/c I get the error:
    Warning: php_uname() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/webchicc/public_html/charlie-banana.co.il/wp-content/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/ewww-image-optimizer.php

    It is used for installation. I’ll do some checking and let you know if there is a way to bypass it.

    The option to “use system paths” disables the php_uname checks, but it also disables the ability to use the bundled binaries. You would have to ask your host provider to install the optimizers you needed (jpegtran, optipng, and gifsicle). OR you could sign-up for the EWWW IO Cloud service.
