Picture insertion problem

I am not HTML proficient, so I use the visual editor. A new problem has arisen when I am editing a draft. It now takes three attempts to insert a picture. Both the first and second attempts produce only a small dot where the picture should be. The third attempt brings it up suddenly. If I just wait and see during the 1st and 2nd attempts if it will eventually show, nothing changes . . . same small dot. Because I live in a rural area that has no high speed access, I am forced to work with 26.4 Kbps, so having to make 3 attempts per picture slows down what is already a snail’s pace. Is there a way to insert several pictures at once? Thanks, stumped in Missouri.
