Is that because the header image is in a ratio that the 48px height is the largest it can be, while fitting in the width?
When I upload a larger image, a cropping tool appears and the selection is 48 px high by default, however when I look at the demo at http://demo.onedesigns.com/pinboard/ there is a much larger image (the cup of coffee) and the main menu is above it.. I would like to upload some images with the same size of the cup of coffee an that is what I cannot find in the admin part of the pinboard theme

Could this bug be produced by a plugin, have you tried deactivating plugins to explore whether any are responsible?
Thank you Andrew it could be … I haven’t got time to do it still this evening but deactivating plugins is a good suggestion I will keep you in touch
You may already know this, but I’ll comment anyway. The large images you’re seeing come from a slideshow that is created as follows: 1) Go to theme options-> General and select “display a slider of sticky posts on the front page” 2) create at least two sticky posts (Quick edit the post and select the box that says, “make this post sticky”. 3) Add a featured image to your sticky posts.
Then the slider will display each of the featured images in your sticky posts.
Thank you krector, I will give it a try again.
Tried both deactivating all the plugins and the tip with the sticky posts als krector said but no success… for the time being I will turn back to a twentytwelve child theme thanks for all the hints – for now I will mark my question as solved
Sorry moderator some things are going wrong when I tried to mark the problem as resolved I hope the resolved status will appear properly now.
Remove the CHECK in Appearance-General
before
Uploaded header images are HiDPI images for retina displays, downsize on normal screen devices.
Then the image seems much better and big
