• Google and WordPress forum searches indicates that a slew of registered users from Poland indicates a hack in progress.

    The site’s running fine.

I have the same concern with lots of recent “PL” address as registered users.

I can only assume that I’m extremely popular in Poland or they are there to hack the site.

Can I simply delete them as registered users?

Previous forums either indicate no problem with PL users to links for what to do if your site’s been hacked. That seems to be two extremes.

  • It can be either way, it all depends on how secure and up-to-date your installation, and your server, is. I’ve got some sites where there’s been over 1,000 of these SPAM’y users register, and from different email addresses and locations. I haven’t had a problem before, but I haven’t got a lot of plugins set up and I know how the site is as secure as I can make it.

The best advice is keep an eye on things and see if any changes happen. Also check out http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/ to check if your site has any issues. If nothing comes up there, there’s a very good chance that you don’t have any problems, and you’ll be pretty save in the future.

I use CloudFlare and since I don’t expect anything from a lot of countries, when I get an attempted login I lock the whole country out. I don’t expect readers from Russia or China, etc. There are probably ways around this but it seems to work. There must be others that can do this.
