Hey @rhand,
Thanks for getting in touch. I’m seeing the same thing on my side with that placeholder element not fully available with the =”name” portion in the code. I can totally see how that would be useful in getting visitors to succesfully fill out the form for subscription.
One potential workaround in the mean time is to utilize a list’s embedded form code provided within MailChimp. That option would allow for fully customizing the form code used to display the form. I know that’s not as ideal as utilizing the plugin directly, but it’s worth a mention
With that said, I’ve gone ahead and passed this feedback over to our developers on your behalf. They’ll be taking a look and seeing if that feature can be included in a future version of the plugin. Feel free to open up another post if you need anything else!
Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback. Saw an update to the plugin just now. Was not an update that added the placeholder though. Should not be too hard to fix now would it. Any eta on this feature request?
Hey @rhand,
Thanks for reaching out. While we have gone ahead and passed that suggestion along internally, we won’t be able to provide an estimated time frame for resolution. But please let us know if you run into any other plugin related questions in the meantime.
Warm Regards,
Pearl
Hi @rhand,
I just wanted to follow up with you with an update – the placeholder value pulls from the “default merge tag value” set for that specific list field. I apologize for any confusion our initial response caused. It is, in fact, totally possible to set placeholder text for all fields but the email address field. You would want to set that placeholder text in your MailChimp account following the steps outlined in their Knowledge Base guide, here: http://kb.mailchimp.com/lists/managing-subscribers/set-default-merge-values-for-a-list and then, after the list in MailChimp has been updated, head on over to the plugin settings in WordPress and click the “Update List” button that appears next to the select a list drop down.
Thanks for your patience – please let me know if you have any trouble with that or if you have any other plugin related questions we can help with.
Respectfully,
Pearl

So possible for all fields BUT the email field Pearl? I would need it for the email field really…
Hi,
Thanks for the speedy reply! That is correct, @rhand, so that doesn’t solve the placeholder issue entirely. To add some background information, it’s not possible to set a default merge value for the email field inside of MailChimp. However, we did bring this issue to our developers attention and they are looking into a way this can be improved in the future.
Thanks again,
Pearl
