Please please please please fix the duplicate image issue in WordPress. Even with only thumbnails and large image sizes selected in media… I have over 50-60 images from one image…

I run a publication online and my media is over 19000 and I have no idea how to sort them. I’ve tried using a few plugins but because I’ve transferred sites recently, all these images are unlinked… I can’t tell which ones the site is actually using and which ones are taking up hosting space.

This issue I think has been here for a considerable amount of time now, perhaps given how amazing WordPress has become, given how many use it for their living. Perhaps we could make an easier option for this sort of thing…

I want to be able to delete any created file sizes of images that are not in use anywhere on my website.

This solution shouldn’t rely on linked and unlinked images though, it doesn’t work for backed up sites…. A better more intuitive fix please.

    Kind Regards

    Richard

By default, WordPress can only create a maximum of 3 additional images per upload. Any others will have been created by your theme or a plugin.

Surely WordPress can do something to aid with this issue though. Even if it is a theme. It’s a theme that runs in WordPress. Ultimately if wordpress implemented some way to prune or stop excessive images being created by a theme… Problem solved.

I’ve had this issue multiple times and it could be there are many many many themes and plugins that create this problem. We need a fix otherwise files sizes will get out of control. Backing up and transfers will become an even bigger nightmare than it already is.

Not if the additional 46 – 56 images are being created by your theme. What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    It’s called GoodNews WordPress Theme

    It’s from ThemeForest.

I’m sorry but as you are using a commercial theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s developer/vendor. We do not have access to, nor do we support, commercial products here.
