    Hello,

I have created a site in wordpress at http://www.puppyfat.com/rupert (currently password protected).

I have bought an addon domain and assigned it to this subdirectory. Now I want to make the site run using the new addon domain as the main URL, so that the visitor never sees puppyfat.com (though I don’t mind if images locations stay like that)

I have read through so many different articles about moving the site from root to subdirectory and visa versa but in my case I want the files to stay in the same place.

I tried changing the ‘site URL’ under the general settings tab, which worked for the home page but the other pages showed an error.

Please help, even if its just directing me to the appropriate article on the wordpress site, my head is spinning!

Thank you very much in advance,

    Claire

  • Okay…I’ve never done this but I believe you could use this WordPress plugin to export your database file. Change your domain then import the file back into your site under the proper domain.

    Thanks for your help dmd54,

In the end I sold it by simply changing both the site URL and WordPress url! easy as pie! I had been too chicken to do this before because i didnt think i would be able to login to the admin panel.

sooo happy it was so easy 🙂 🙂

    Excellent. That’s easy enough.

    Hi,

I’m trying to do the same thing – very encouraged that changing the site URL and WordPress url’s worked – appreciate if you could confirm that..

    1) You added your addon domain ‘www.rupertgrey.co.uk’ to your sub-directory http://www.puppyfat.com/rupert.

2)You changed the site address URL and WordPress address url’s in the general settings section to http://www.rupertgrey.co.uk

    Anything else?

    Thanks in advance
