plug in vs widget

    Just wanted to show off how new I am to word press with a question
    1) whats the difference between a widget and a plug in?
    I read in a post some plug in’s have widgets so now I am really confused.
    I read all about plug ins and installing is not a issue just wondering about what they do and the difference between them.
