Plugin activation stuck

    when I install a new plugin, any plugin and click the activate button it tells me that the plugin is activated but it really is not.
    no errors, just no plugins or widgets ever get activated
    they did work with 2.7

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins and then re-activating them one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems.

    yes I have done exactly that with no success
    right now i have only the two default plugins loaded
    hello dolly will not activate ???
    switched themes many times

    used mysqladmin to repair database tables and everything works fine
    must have corrupted database not deactivating plugins before upgrade
