Hey @wafwaf,
Thank you for reaching out to us. Can you go to Instagram Feed > Customize > Misc > Image Resizing > enable Favor Local Images > click Save Changes to see if this resolves the issue? You will want to clear any caching and optimization plugins on your site and then view the page with the feed on it to trigger the local image feature.
Many thanks, hope you are having a great day!

Do you suppose it should be automatically on in the next update so others won’t have the same problem? just a suggestion. Thank you 🙂
Hey @wafwaf,
Glad to hear everything is working! I will pass your feedback along to our developer for consideration in the future.
Let us know if you need anything in the future. Hope you have a great weekend!
This is helpful thank you. I ran into this same problem on 08/11/2020 and found this setting under:
Instagram Feed > Settings > 2. Customize > Advanced (scroll down to Misc), 3rd checkbox down the page is Favor Local Images
I’m having the same issue, I enabled “favor local images” and gtmetrix still picks up excessive redirects. I also disabled my caching plugin to rule out any caching.
Are there any other settings that need to be configured?
Hey @dphoenix,
You will want to click ‘Reset Resized Images’ and further down Clear Backup / Permanent Cache to ensure the plugin is set up correctly after changing this setting. In many cases, to improve GTMetrix score you will also want to enable the setting Disable JS Image Loading. I suggest you enable this and see whether this improves it in your case.
Let me know if you need any more help.
Many thanks.
Before enabling “favor local images” I saw 4 wrong(?) images loaded, those are all named “?size=t” with a 302 status URL, and type “text/html Redirect”.
After setting to “favor local images” this didn’t change the issue here, and in fact my actual test give 404 status for those local images, while still displaying the secondary images.
+ I’ve also seen from time to time that /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php is loading with a long TTFB (3s on my localhost for an example). Hopefully it doesn’t seem to slow the global page load and display but it might slow the Instagram feed each time it has to load new content..
Could you use another method to simply remove this slow request ?
I’ll try to update this topic since it’s quite frustrating.
Regards.

Hey @tdechangy,
Thank you for reaching out to us for support. I am sorry to hear about the frustrations you are facing setting everything up. Since the issues you are mentioning require more information for us to properly troubleshoot which should not be posted publicly on the forum, please send us a support request and include the ‘System Info‘ from your plugin, you can do that from here: https://smashballoon.com/instagram-feed/support/
Many thanks.
Cool, for other users, here was their answer that helped me to fix it all together :
You currently have ‘Load initials posts with Ajax’ enabled in the plugin settings under Instagram Feed > Customize. Disabling this should reduce the load on the admin-ajax.php loading time. As for the errors that were ‘solved’ with Autoptimize, you were most likely seeing caching errors with old resizing images that do not exist. You can also choose to enable ‘Disable JS image loading’ as it may help with your situation and lazy loading.
Many thanks.
