Using [bgmp-list] I’d like to know how to order the placements alphabetically by placement title.

That’s not possible right now, but I’m planning on adding it in the next few releases.

This is done in 1.3.2.

Can I order them by other criteria, like the post date?

For the map, you can use the bgmp_get-map-placemarks-query filter, and for the list you can use the bgmp_list-shortcode-params filter. If you’re not familiar with using filters you can finds lots of information on the Codex and other places.
