I just installed this plugin, went though a few tests then wanted to hide my backend login, it told me I needed to change my permalink structure from the default. It turns out when I change the permalink structure from anything but the default, I get a 404 error when I attempt to any page other than my homepage (single blog posts, 2nd page of the site, archives..anything.)

Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Thanks so much for the help

  • Did you have existing links that had already been using the old permalinks? WordPress cannot update links that already exist in many places.

If I change the permalink structure to say..”post name” then my most recent post does get changed to the ‘post name” structure however when i click the link to see the single post it gives me a 404 error. Changing it back to default fixes it.

    Ah ha.

Please make sure the rewrite rules listed in the permalink settings are making it to your .htaccess file.
