[Plugin: Better WP Security] Unable to access admin area

    I blocked access to the .htaccess and congif files under tweats and lost all access to my site. I deleted the Better WP Security section in the .htaccess file and now I can access the site as a user but as soon as I try to go to the WP dashbord I get the following error.

    The requested URL /wp/wp-admin/ was not found on this server.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    I need help to get the site back up.

    I had the same problem.
    I ftp’d into my site, found the htaccess file, changed the permissions on that file manually, then deleted all the code inside and including this:
    ‘<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>’ …. ‘</IfModule>’

    I was then able to log into my site using wp-admin and everything was back to normal.

    xdissentionx, thanks for the information. I did as you suggested and still had a problem but I saw that I was being forced to SSL so, I checked the wp-config.php file and changed the “force SSL Login & Admin definitions to false. I was then able to log into my site and things are working properly.

    The problem I had was that “hide the backend” had been enabled by one of the other site admins (never have two!) without letting me know!

    I followed the information provided by xdissentionx, but access to the backend was still denied. However, the next day I tried again and I was able to access it. Something must have timed out within that time.

    Was the <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> …. </IfModule> section in the .htaccess file added by this plugin, or was it something put there by WordPress itself?
