It started this morning when I believe I upgraded the plugin to the latest version. I got people calling and telling me that it was breaking the site. The page I have it on was showing code. I ended up having to delete the plugin and reinstall it. Now when I activate the plug-in the site wont load. The wordpress dashboard does, but the site does not, no matter the page.

So I went to delete the plugin again and it says it’s failed to delete (Plugin could not be deleted due to an error: Could not fully remove the plugin(s) business-directory-plugin/business-directory-plugin.php.
). I jump on the FTP and try to delete the folder manually and it refuses to delete. Always keeping the Core > Compatibility folder showing with nothing in it.

Site just sit and spins forever before finally giving me Server Error 500

Okay, I have the plugin fully deleted again, folder and everything. I’m afraid to try and re-install because the last time I was in this position with everything seeming to work normally it broke my site. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

    Hi Inapprope,

Sorry that you ran into issues here!

Sounds like you ran into a conflict during upgrade. Do you have a staging site where you can copy the production site over and run tests on it before upgrading the main production site? That would be best at this point.

I have a few questions for you:
    – What version of BD were you running before upgrade? Was it older than 3.6.8?
    – What version of WP?
    – Are you running on shared hosting?

Also, one suggestion is to try a conflict test during the upgrade. Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with Business Directory, which may help pinpoint the issue: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/how-to-check-for-plugin-and-theme-conflicts-with-bd/

That may help if you can either do it on staging or at a time when your production site has lower traffic. There’s a strong possibility of something environmental here so we need to determine what that may be. We’ve not received general reports of this issue from most of the userbase so far.

I’m not sure what version I was running before the upgrade. I have other sites with the same plug-ins and same theme, on the same server and they’re running fine currently. It may not be totally a BD problem because the folder for the plug-in is gone and its out of my plugins and my site still isn’t coming up, though I can still get to my WP dashboard… I have an email into my host.

I changed the theme and disable all plugins and nothing has fixed it.

If BD isn’t active and the site is down, well that’s a pretty good sign that it’s not BD. You may need to venture into the error logs to determine what is going on. A hack may be the cause.

    Good luck.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues!
