Hi,
This certainly doesn’t sound like something the plugin would do. We run a basic query to pull in announcement posts in the same way a standard post woud be displayed.
Please provide a link to an example of the issue.
Evan
Evan,
Thanks for your quick response.
Okay, I know it is strange, especially because the Timeline shortcode ISNT EVEN USED on the frontpage:
I enabled it for now, but I will have to deactive the plugin again in the next hour or so because I cant keep the site broken for too long

The actual timeline page works great with no issues:

I suspect this is happening because it’s trying to pull an excerpt from your timeline page, which would slice the timeline in half and probably cause some serious issues.
How are you displaying your timeline on the homepage? Is it in a page or a post? Is the post or page excerpt being displayed on the homepage?
Evan
Evan,
I see what youre saying. You have identified the problem.
The Timeline plugin shortcode is on the CLAN USA blog post.
On the homepage, at the bottom, the section “Blog” pulls excerpts from blog articles and displays them with “Read More” button
When I remove the Blog section, the site works again
Seems I have discovered an obscure bug. Is there a way to work around this? I will see if theres a way to not display the shortcode on the frontpage Blog section excerpt
Not to my knowledge as I haven’t come across this issue before. I do recommend placing the shortcode on a page and not in a post, to prevent this from happening. The only other way would be to add x amount of characters before the timeline to use that as the excerpt (or add an excerpt into the excerpt field if your theme supports that).
Evan
Thanks for finding the solution! I was pretty lost
For anyone having this same problem
Problem Symptoms:
– One page layout with Blog posts page loads, loads, loads, then crashes
Problem Cause:
– Shortcode in the Post displays on the Blog Posts page as an excerpt, causes the page to keep loading
Problem Solution:
– Use custom excerpt for Timeline Post, which stops the excerpt from pulling the shortcode into the blog posts page
I use DIVI too… seems to work fine…
Here’s a question…
how can you change the order of announcements ?
thanks! very cool plugin!!
Hi Svend,
You can toggle the order of announcements from the settings page. You can set things to Ascending or Descending based on the date of the announcement.
Evan
Hi Evan
thanks. I do see that!
it would be nice to use your plugin to do a timeline of past history, let’s say of ones life. This might mean you would sit down and do 20+ entries in one day…
then a week later, you might see you have things in the wrong order, but they all have same date, so that would not work…
maybe there is a way in list view to move an event up or down?
that would be great!!
Thanks for the quick reply Evan… keep up the great work!
Svend
Hi again Evan
I did find a work around…. I can just go in and edit the announcement date to reorder events… that is not too bad 😉
thanks
Svend
