The issue: When WooCommerce is activated, I’m unable to access my Customization page (Appearance > Customize). The page will not load, therefore, I’m unable to edit anything.
When it is deactivated, everything works as it should.

I’ve spoken to the Theme Developer, who confirms that the Demo is working fine.
I’ve deactivated all other plugins, so I have narrowed it down to the problem being in WooCommerce.

I’ve looked into my control panel errors (via my hosting site). And this error appears:
    [Thu Oct 24 10:51:56.375570 2024] [access_compat:error] [pid 582012:tid 22950997870336] [client 162.241.224.161:0] AH01797: client denied by server configuration: /home2/kgbyhbmy/public_html/wp-content/uploads/woocommerce_uploads/

Any ideas what it means? And how can this be resolved?

  • Hey @themoonfolk ,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with the Customizer when WooCommerce is active! Are you logging in as the site Administrator when trying to access the Customizer?

It’s possible that there may be incorrect files/folder permissions on your server for your WP installation. Can you navigate to Dashboard → Tools → Site Health → Info → Filesystem Permissions and confirm all directories are writable? More specifically, the uploads directory here:

If not, your host should be able to help you adjust those permissions. For reference, directories should generally have permissions set to 755. You can read more about this here:

    https://developer.ww.wp.xz.cn/advanced-administration/server/file-permissions/

If the permissions look good, are there perhaps any custom .htaccess rules in your WordPress installation that may be blocking access to the WooCommerce uploads directory? If you’re unsure, your host can help you review and adjust these rules if necessary.

Please let us know how this goes!

    Hi @beautyofcode !

    Thank you for your answer.

I’ve checked with my hosting & this is what they said:

I just checked and the permissions are set correctly, you can also see them in Site Tools>Site>File Manager>public_html>wp-content>plugins>Woocommerce

This is a different error, I would recommend responding to the WooCommerce thread with this screenshot and confirming that you checked with us the permissions and that we added a Default WordPress .htaccess to make sure there are custom .htaccess rules
    .

My theme developer also logged into my WP, and this is what she said:
I also enabled WordPress’s debug feature for a bit and got a bunch of errors from a plugin + wp’s default files (I’ve attached a screenshot)

At this point other than switching to a new host, I don’t know what else to suggest, I’m sorry. I enabled the debug feature on the demo + uploaded it to a test site but I’m not getting any errors and WooCommerce works fine there.

**Note: I took my Theme Developer’s advice and I began the switch from Bluehost to Siteground yesterday (she uses SiteGround for her Demos), so the above chat with the hosting company is with Siteground!

    Hello themoonfolk,

    Thank you for your reply.

To clarify, do you no longer see the “client denied by server configuration” error in your first message? And now, after switching to SiteGround, the error you’re seeing is “Passing null to parameter #1“?

To assist you better, please share a copy of your site’s System Status Report.
You can find this by going to WooCommerce > Status, selecting Get system report, and then clicking Copy for support.

Looking forward to your response. 🙂
