[Plugin: Connections] Customize template for directory

I’m trying to customize Connections (a GREAT plugin) for use as a photo directory. Do you know of any documentation on customizing a template or modifying an existing template? Have you seen any examples of church family directories? I’m really liking Phill Pafford’s customization but want to replace the Google Map with a family portrait. Any direction would be appreciated.
