When I tried to activate the “Wordfence” plugin on my site I got this message instead:”Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”

Does anyone know what this error could be and what’s causing it? Thank you.

Hello @regjack and thanks for reaching out to us!

I have seen this on a few threads lately. Since you don’t have access to Wordfence, I cant get a diagnostic. If you don’t mind me asking, what host are you using?

Let’s try to completely uninstall Wordfence and its tables and reinstall.

Download and install the Wordfence Assistant plugin. Wordfence Assistant can Delete the tables and remove them.
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wordfence-assistant/

Once the tables are removed, uninstall Wordfence, then install it as normal.

Let me know what you find!

    Thanks!

When you download the plugin, are you able to see it in your file system via FTP in the wp-content folder?

Is the error happening when you try to activate it or when you try to download it?

    Thanks!

Thank you WF Adam for your reply.

It happens when I try to activate the plugin once I see its been installed. This is the exact message: “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”

    I don’t understand it.

Have you tried contacting your hosting support to see if they can see any errors in the install process?

I haven’t seen this reported by anyone else recently.

Let me know what you find as I am curious about this!

    Thanks!
