Hello,

I have tried to connect the GiveWP plugin with my PayPal business account, which has been verified to be for a charity organization and should be ready to receive donations

However, after the successful connecting/onboarding with my Paypal account, I do receive the error message:

Warning, your account is not ready to accept donations. There is an issue with your PayPal account that is preventing you from being able to accept donations. Please reach out to PayPal support from your PayPal account Resolution Center and relay the following message:

Greetings!

I am trying to connect my PayPal account to the GiveWP plugin for WordPress. I have gone through the onboarding process to connect my account, but when I finish I'm given the following message from GiveWP:
PayPal merchant status check API request response is:

Your account was expected to be able to accept custom payments, but is not. Please make sure your account country matches the country setting. If the problem persists, please contact PayPal.

Please help me resolve these account errors so I can begin accepting payments via PayPal on GiveWP.

I have contacted to Paypal support and the Paypal tech support, and they told me that everything is fine on their behalf/there is nothing they can do about it and that it must be an issue with the plugin:

I checked your PayPal account and I could confirm that your account is set up and verified and you shouldn’t be prompted with this error message. I would advise you to clear your browser cache/cookies, disconnect the GiveWP plugin and complete the onboarding process again.

If you’re still having an issue, please contact GiveWP support and please let me know if any PayPal-related questions come up. If they confirm that the problem is ours, ask the GiveWP team to share the exact API request/response (logs) for the connection attempt and I will help you fix it. Please also share with us the documentation mentioned for your integration.

I have tried everything they have suggested, tried to reconnect paypal multiple times etc. I know there have been threads regarding the same issue in the past, but they do offer a way to solve my issue. I have also set up a completely new empty WordPress page on a live test site and the same problem occurs so it can not be related to my website/wordpress installation. Do you have any idea what the reason for this error may be?

I could share the wordpress admin and FTP access to the test site if it helps you to look into it.

Best regards,
Ink

Hi, @ink_zip.

Glad you reached out. I can give you some more guidance on this PayPal issue.

There’s a wide variety of reasons why you might struggle to get PayPal Donations connected correctly. Some of those reasons we can solve and some are things that PayPal needs to solve, but I’m here to help you as completely as I possibly can.

The first thing you should do is confirm that you do not have GiveWP in “Test Mode.” If GiveWP is in test mode, it will attempt to connect PayPal Donations to the PayPal sandbox instead of your live PayPal account. In live mode, GiveWP connects to your live PayPal account. You can disable test mode by going to Donations > Settings > Payment Gateways.

If you still have trouble connecting to PayPal, it’s possible something is cached in your browser. Some GiveWP users have had success by logging into their WordPress site in an incognito window and then connecting to PayPal there. After you make the connection incognito, you should be fine moving forward.

If neither of those two things gets you connected, then most likely there’s an issue with your PayPal account and we want to get you connected with PayPal directly to resolve it. We created this intake form to give you more details about this problem and for you to get in touch with PayPal directly. Please make sure you complete the form as completely as possible: https://givewp.com/paypal-onboarding-reports/

The form on that page sends an email directly to PayPal, to a team that we have been told is aware of any issues, and can walk you through connecting. We’re here to help as much as we can, but ultimately they’ll have to help if none of the steps above resolve things.

As a last resort, if all else fails, I’d recommend using a different payment gateway, if possible. My personal favorite is Stripe.

Thanks for using GiveWP! Have a great day.

I have tried all the steps that you have suggested (as I said I have seen those already in other threads) including reconnecting in an incognito window, deleting the site and browser cache, also the live mode (not test most) is active etc. but all these tips do not solve my issue.
We have also submitted the same error now via the contactform you have mentioned at https://givewp.com/paypal-onboarding-reports/ but as mentioned I had already contacted the Paypal support by myself before and they said the Paypal account is ready to accept donations and it must be a plugin error.

1) Any way you can help my directly to check my problem? Could I maybe share the credentials of the test site I have set up with your support team so you can check the error yourself?

There is another thing I wonder if it could be related to it:
2)
I am from Austria and also have selected Austria on the GiveWP Paypal options page prior to connecting with Paypal. In the onboarding/connection process when I click the Blue “Connect with Paypal” Button the Paypal popup window shows up saying “Connect a PayPal account to start accepting payments on GiveWP” and it does have a email field and a “Country or region” dropdown to select from, but in this list there is only a small choice of countries available to choose from an Austria is not one of them. Why are there not all countries available to select from?
However, when I type in my email address associated with the Paypal account and a random wrong country like the US and then click next, I am redirected to the normal Paypal login page anyway which then allows me to log in anyway and the onboarding process seems to have worked but as mentioned then later the before mentioned error appears. Maybe it is related to a problem due to selecting the wrong country or maybe the plugin has an error with other countries?

3)
Maybe also the legal name of the business/charity “Lienzer Brücke” could have caused a problem? (In German it is “Lienzer Brücke” with ü but in the api response from Paypal it is escaped to “Lienzer Brücke”)

Hi, @ink_zip.

As much as we’d love to help you with this issue by logging in on your site and troubleshooting it, in 10 out of 10 cases, the problem was in how PayPal was working in some accounts and not in GiveWP, so I do not think it would be interesting now.

You mentioned that you do not see Austria as an option on the popup that opens up when you try to connect GiveWP with it. The problem is that the popup is PayPal’s popup, so I believe that they did not make PayPal Donations available in your country. PayPal is a giant company and they have several services and some of those services are not available everywhere.

For example, the PayPal Donations platform (internally called PayPal Commerce) is not available for everybody, although PayPal Standard is more broadly available.

If PayPal is a must for your project, PayPal Donations might not be an option for you and you need to try PayPal Standard instead.

My preference is to use Stripe instead, but it’s personal and based on our experience with them.

Thanks for using GiveWP! Have a great day.
