On my site when pulling up the Submit Events page, it does not show a border around the text boxes. Is there a way to shade the background of the boxes or add a border?

this is something you can do via CSS in your theme. I think a theme or plugin is doing this via CSS, the text editor isn’t working properly either (are you on the latest version of wp?)
