When I tell it not to use the slide link when no link is specified, I get no link, -but I have a link specified! Also when I tell it to use the slide link image when no link is specified, it ignonres my link. Is this known a bug? Can I hack something to change this?

I figured it out after about 2 hours of messing with it. Oddly enough, If linking to a post, you have to specify the link on the post page itself, there’s settings for the slideshow in a widget.
Weird though, the link is already specified in the Media library, -confusing.

Why are you taking about the media library ? the plugin dont work with media library… but posts.

Can you give more informations ? wich website or plugin Id ?

There’s no problem with the plugin, just figuring out usage. Maybe you arn’t aware that when media library is used to insert an image in a post it effects the slideshow. That’s what’s confusing, the distinctions without a difference. you have extra settings in the post editor, so I’m not sure what to use, your settings or media library settings, or not clear if it even matters. So are you saying all settings can be adjusted WITHOUT using the media library at all? sounds good to me. I’ll see how it works like that.

    thanks

I’m exactly aware on how the plugin work : I made it 🙂
So if I tell you that the plugin do not use media library at all, trust me 😀
to find out wich picture to show, the plugin :
    – try to use the picture you explicitly specified on per post config
    – it extract the url of the first picture inserted into post content, if no picture has been specified
    – a 1×1px transparent picture is used as a fall back, if no picture has been specified
The picture is displayed centered onto the slider as the interesting things are usually put onto the center of picture, and sometimes the images used don’t have the right size. The pictures are not modified at all, and only their URLs are used

    This way :
    – you can use external pictures
    – use a special picture (that have the slide size)
    – do not have to worry about pictures sizes : you can run the plugin quite out of the box.

The plugin have 2 admin levels : one for general things (you can tweak all things, colors, transitions, spiners, controls…), and one to tweak all per post settings (per post settings have precedence on general ones)

Hope all this will be useful 😉

that’s good news, I want to avoid the WP media ibrary at all costs, I’ll ignore it and just use the per-post plugin settings. Thanks for the clairification. It’s a great slide show plugin. My frustration is with WP media library, which confuses useage for these image gallery-slideshow plugins sometimes.
    Thanks again.

It is really complicated to create a satifying media library : everyone has its own idea of that tool, so the WP core dev got to be smart enough to create a model that satisfy the most part or users, and it takes time to do so. Wait a bit for a fully cool media library on WP… 🙂

Keeps in mind that this plugin is NOT an image gallery slideshow but a post slideshow 😉

Think that you can also create your very own template to exactly feet your needs 🙂

If I wanted an image gallery slideshow I think I would still use this plugin for it, just create a post for each image and have the slideshow use that category. I could never use the WP media library as a source for images in a slideshow, because it contains my header image, and other stuff that I don’t want to feature. I understand that we all have different needs, I just don’t understand why it can’t have folders and categories with different access levels. Wouldn’t we all appreciate that? WP has been around for a while now, with no improvement in this area. Very frustrating.

You can’t understand because you don’t have any idea of what it implies in devel I think : its a huge thing that can have terrible side effects when upgrading…

So, ..you say it’s got something to do with the devil? I can believe that! (haha)
Your right, I have no idea why it’s the way it is, I’m not a WP developer and my php skills are limited. But I’m happy to know it’s for a good reason, Perhaps someday someone will improve it. In the mean time I’m grateful for you guys that make the plugins. Your’s is a great one. Thanks.
