    The importer doesn’t use the file name as the post name because WordPress requires unique post names, even at different levels of the hierarchy. The .htaccess rewrite rules provided are intended to solve the problem by seamlessly redirecting visitors to the new location regardless of its URL.

    Your clients are wrong. 🙂 I know you can’t tell them so bluntly, but that’s simply not how WordPress works, and it’s going to bite them in the future.

    how would you argue the “will bite them part”… ? you think that seo wise static wordpress is not helpfull?
