    Hi Joe,
    I hope you can help.
I’ve been using MyTickets and MyCalendar since lockdown started in the UK. We installed it on my wife’s website (www.zumbawithsandra.co.uk) to sell tickets to her fitness classes. It worked great and all was fine.
Just recently the plugin has been acting a little strange. Two things are happenning:
    1. Sometimes users are able to purchase tickets for multiple events but only pay for one event resulting in lost revenue.
    2. The plugin is sending multiple confirmation emails to the user.

Just to let you know, we installed WP Mail SMTP plugin to route all the outgoing email traffic through my wife’s google mail account. The reason for this was to ensure that people did actually receive the email confirmations. This works as required.

The site was updated to PHP 7.4 yesterday. Would that have anything to do with it?

Could you please look into this for us? If you need to log into the site to investigate then I can give you access if needed.

I have also posted this on the forum on the plugin page website but it doesn’t seem particularly active so I’m cross-posting here.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    1) Is the plug-in entirely up to date? I have no specific ideas about how this might be happening, so I might need to do some serious exploration to be able to pin that down.

    2) Is the plug-in logging multiple copies of emails sent in the payment record?

Hi Joe, thank you so much for responding.
The plugin is 100% up to date.
Yes, multiple emails are visible in the payment record. It’s send up to 12 emails over about a 12 hour period.

Does this happen with every payment? Are all payments running through the same gateway?

Are all emails the same, or are there differences?

    Hi Joe,
It is happening with every payment. The emails are all the same. It just replicates the same email over and over. They are all listed in the payments, one after another. For example.. a ticket bought at 10.38am was again sent at:

    10:38 am
    10:40 am
    10:42 am
    10:44 am
    10:47 am
    10:53 am
    11:05 am
    11:27 am
    12:12 pm
    1:38 pm
    4:32 pm

I look forward to hearing from you.

OK – the fact that they’re spaced out like this suggests this is related to a payment gateway issue. I’m not sure it’s solely that, but the payment gateway is the only thing that would be likely to repeatedly ping your site updating the status of an event – and it would only do it repeatedly if it’s not getting confirmation that the notification has been received.

Which gateway are you using? (If it’s PayPal, we can continue here; otherwise, we’ll need to move to my private forums for Premium support.)

Thanks Joe. Yes it is Paypal that we’re using on the site.
Please let me know what more info you need.

Actually, we just had an email from Paypal:

“Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). Instant Payment Notifications sent to the following URL(s) are failing.

Hmm…. I’ll contact the hosting company to see if this can be fixed on the server.

    I’ll let you know

Thanks for highlighting what the issue might be

If you look at the IPN history in your PayPal account, you’ll be able to get some information about what PayPal is getting when it queries your server. In particular, if you can identify the HTTP code that PayPal is getting, that would be useful.

That was it! I had to contact the hosting company and they have enabled IPN on the server and this seems to have sorted the issue. We’ve had bookings on the site today and only single email notifications sent.
Thanks so much Joe for highlighting where the error originated.
    A thousand thanks!

    Glad that’s resolved!
