Did you ever get this work? It worked on my site but then it distorted my post and repeated some of the posting at the end of the page when I simply by adding the curly brackets.
Nope. I ended up using a different plugin.
Which one did you end up using? I liked the hover feature of jquery ummm if it really worked.
I went with http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/plugins/footnotes-for-wordpress/, which does have a sort of similar action, but not as slick.
You can see it in action here: http://sirguillaume.com/real-knights-real-chivalry-or-if-they-were-so-genteel-how-come-they-had-swords/ (the footnotes numbers are a little hard to see, I need to work on some CSS to make it stand out more.)
I don’t love the big, obvious footnote boxes at the bottom of the page, but I’m sure that can be corrected with some CSS. I’ll get to it eventually.
Good luck!
Does it seem likely that this plugin will be updated to work with WordPress 3.3.1?
All I wanted on a clients job was some unintrustive ‘explanation’ prompts – footnotes not needed below.
Having plodded through 7 other pretty arcane or defective tooltip plugins, found this elegant little gem.
Brilliant work Lance, will send a small thank you on PayPal.
Dead easy to set up – and option to suppress the comments below article is really useful; I find the ‘not working’ comments on here baffling.
@digigirl,
Did you use double curly brackets where you want the reference superscript to appear in the main test (after your keyed word) like this example
Download the checklist {{1}} here:
and the text you want to pop up , encased in double square brackets like this
1Small download – only 100KB[[1]}
??
@javajoint,
I’m using 3.3.1, (with far too many plugins) and it all worked first time.
Jeez, it looked OK in the editor before posting . .WTH ?*@!
S/be:
” … and the text you want to pop up , encased in double square brackets like this:
1Small download – only 100KB1 “
One other possible cause of failure: Conflict with other naughty plugins that use shortcodes – had this a while back.
Try deactivating other plugins (mass solution: rename plugin folder > glugin or similar test, then restore original folder name and reactivate the plugins one by one.)
Yeah, tedious i know; I think there is a plugin that selectively activates/deactivates for this sort of adventure.
OK, this editor doesn’t like square brackets – and you can’t edit yr posts in this basic thing . . last shot : (
… and the text you want to pop up , encased in double square brackets like this:
1Small download - only 100KB1
It works but the plugin is bugged for me.
It keeps re-generating my homepage over and over. So it’s quite messy.
The easy fix is to hit the update button twice but that is annoying to do each time.
plz delete, double posted.
