[Plugin: Login Security Solution] Wont Let Me Login
-
I have disabled this plugin because when I try to login it it keeps saying that I have enter the wrong password. But, when it lets me login, when I try to access my control panel, it loggs me out and wont let me back in.

Hi Marc:
I haven’t seen that issue in my extensive testing on several WP installs. I want to make sure all problems get resolved. Can you please try again?
If you see any error messages, please copy down all error messages you see.
* Get the files from http://downloads.wp.xz.cn/plugin/login-security-solution.0.8.0.zip
* Put that directory in yourwp-content/pluginsdirectory
* Activate the plugin.
* Go to the Settings page for the Login Security Solution.
* On the bottom, select the “Yes, delete the damn data” option and click “Save Changes.”
* Deactivate the plugin.
* That makes sure any settings from an old install are blown away.
* Activate the plugin.
* Log out.
* Edit your site’s mainwp-config.phpfile and setWP_DEBUGtotrue.
* Oh, yeah adjust your php.ini settings so errors can be logged (log_errors = Onanderror_log = /path/to/php_errors.log) or seen (display_errors = On)From this point forward, write down every step you take and what happens in response.
Now log in. Let me know what happens, please. Check the
php_errors.logfor any problems.Thanks,
–Dan
ok, thanks!
I was having the same problem with one of my WP installs. So I was going to try the steps suggested, but was unable to get anywhere with that.
I had to go into the backend of a site and delete the plugin entirely in order to log into my website at all. And if I try to put it back even while logged in, it logs me out, tells me that I have to reset my password, then tells me my password isn’t strong enough and to login and change it. At which point the login fails.
I have this installed on all my WP sites, but this is a serious issue for me. Unless resolved, I will have to look for another solution.
Mettam:
Sorry you’re having problems.
Your description, while not as detailed as needed to fully sort out the problem you’re having, does provide a lead.
Once the plugin is activated, all you need to do to log in is use the “Lost your password?” / password reset process. (The plugin should have forwarded you to the page for doing so.)
Also, are you using multiple accounts to log in?
FYI: your attempt to manually rip out the plugin did not remove all of the settings in the database. The plugin’s settings page offers a way to completely remove the plugin’s database records upon deactivation.
Ok, I might have been a little irritable earlier when I posted. So let me give you a better idea of what is happening. I was just using one administrative account to attempt to login. But this particular site is rather inactive, so I had forgotten the password.
At the moment I am logged in – having deleted the plugin directory (but not having removed the settings in the database). So I add the directory back in, activate the plugin, and I’m immediately sent to ‘Lost Password/Reset Password’ page. Which is why I hadn’t removed the plugin’s records. So I put in my info and have it send me an email. I click the link in the email and reset my password. Now this time it works as it’s supposed to!
I suspect it has to do with the several hours that have passed since I was having problems (i.e., well past the 120 minute tracking of login errors). Previously, no matter what password I entered (even one with more than 10 characters including uppercase, lowercase, numbers and punctuation) it kept telling me that my password was not strong enough. BTW, the one I just used successfully was one of the ‘not strong enough’ ones from earlier today.
At that time what would happen is that I would attempt to login (as the ‘not strong enough’ error message says to do) and then I would get a ‘wrong password/username’ error and asking me if I want to reset my password. It was like an error loop that I couldn’t break.
While I now seem to have things working right again, I hope my above description is a little more helpful to understanding what was going on.
Thanks

Thank you very much for the details!
I did find that some behaviors had inadvertently change, introducing a “Catch 22” situation. I just released version 0.9.0 to fix the problem. Now, when users choose an insecure password during the reset process, they can pick a better password right on the spot.
Sorry for the trouble.
Thanks for the fix and glad that I could be of assistance.
