Grab the mctagmap.php from here and see if it works correctly:
http://www.tugbucket.net/tests/mctagmap/
It appears to be doing fine on my test install but, I don’t have very many pages.
By default it will not show a count or descriptions. Those options aren’t available for pages anyway. Also, it only shows published pages. I tried to think of reasons why someone would want to list a link to an unpublished page and couldn’t think of one.
This will show up as “10.0.2 – BETA” in your plugins menu. I’m pretty sure it works as intended but, it’s early and only 2 cups of coffee in so you’re my other set of eyes.
Hmm. For some reason the link’s not working for me. I can’t seem to download the file. It tells me “The requested URL was not found on this server.”
Interesting, try this:
http://www.tugbucket.net/tests/mctagmap/multi-column-tag-map.zip
if that doesn’t work, shoot e an email at alan[@]tugbucket[dot]net and I’ll attach it.
Hi tugbucket,
It works great! I had to figure out what the command was (show_pages="yes"), but it’s all good.
http://www.involvingthepublic.com/criteria/
I do have a request though, and that is since pages don’t have a “description,” is there a way you can have it display an excerpt or until a “read more” divider? Or you could have it display a custom field value? There are lots of plugins including this one: http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/plugins/page-excerpt/ that give pages excerpts.
Same link:
http://www.tugbucket.net/tests/mctagmap/multi-column-tag-map.zip
It should show up as “10.0.3 – BETA” this time around.
The new options are:
show_pages=”yes/no”
page_excerpt=”yes/no”
If show_pages and page_excerpt are both ‘yes’, an ‘Excerpt’ field should show up in the center column of the ‘Edit Page’ screen. That will allow you to add a custom excerpt to be displayed the same way as descriptions do for categories and tags.
Let me know if you come across any errors.
Well your plugin seems to be working – I think – but my website has developed some sort of database error and I can only visit the website sort of intermittently. I don’t think it’s related, but I do think you should probably find another guinea pig to test the plugin on!
In any case, thanks so much for all your help, from what I can see the plugin seems to do exactly what I want!
Did you grab the new 10.0.4?
I’m looking at http://www.involvingthepublic.com/goals/ and http://www.involvingthepublic.com/criteria/ and they both look fine. Had a friend look too and all good.
Are you still having the DB error? That’s what 10.0.4 is supposed to fix.
I did grab 10.0.4, and I haven’t had the error since I installed it. But it was an intermittent error so it could come back.
I installed 10.0.3 and then got the error. I didn’t think it was related but I deleted the plugin files just in case. I still had the error without the plugin files so I figured it wasn’t related. I reinstalled 10.0.3. Then upgraded to 10.0.4.
Do you think the database error was caused by 10.0.3? If so, that will save me a bunch of troubleshooting!
When I uninstalled 10.0.3 and reinstalled, I got a fatal error line 686. I overlooked a global variable. I deleted 10.0.3, added it to 10.0.4 and installed 10.0.4 and never got the error again.
Locally you won’t get the “Error establishing connection” error and that’s why I missed it. I only saw it when deactivating and reactivating it in the admin.
99% sure your error was my doing and it should be fine with 10.0.4
Uh oh… it was working fine and then I just got the same error. I reloaded and it was fine again.
I hate intermittent errors!
Strange. I uploaded 10.0.5
I didn’t want to force the excerpt box but if you’re having issues on your end, it looks like I’ll have to.
10.0.5 removes what seems to be the offending line of code.
Force as in make it visible regardless if you have the page_excerpt set to “yes” although it’s not a big deal really. If it works without an error, it’s good.
So far, no error. I’ll keep you posted. Version 10.0.4 worked well for a long time before randomly having an error once then going away…
