Seeing the same using 1.9.5. Noticed this after deleting several images.
Having the same issue. Hope someone can help. Everything was fine until I edited some thumbnails; now each gallery breaks in odd locations. Tried modifying the code per instructions on another post but it did not work.
My workaround:
Go into Gallery Options –> Gallery Tab
Enter the number of columns that will work on your page.
Save Changes.

Workaround did not work for me. I set for 4 columns and instead have 1 column with a break/space every 4 pics in one, long, single column. :[
@emeraldcitytooz, how did you get the caption to appear on the larger images when you click on a thumbnail? I can’t get that to work.
@ch1x0r – could it be another plugin on your site? try deactivating all your plugins, clear your cache and see if that fixes it. worth a try to at least eliminate the possibility that its another plugin causing it to happen for ya.
* all plugins except NextGEN of course. 😉
