[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Permissions deleting nextgen gallery folder

I just deleted my wordpress installation from my ftp. I am not able to delete the nextgen gallery folder due to incorrect chmod settings on the images in that folder. I am not able to change the chmod settings, because I receive a permission denied message.

Did anybody run into this before?
