• Hi all,

I’m currently running Ubuntu Linux on my Laptop, and use it for the majority of my writing work, which includes my site Old School Gamer.

I’ve noticed that I can’t upload images with NextGEN Gallery while using Linux, however can upload them perfectly with my Windows machine.

I’m not sure if it’s a plugin problem, or a problem with some security setting on Ubuntu, so I’m asking for a little help.

    Ubuntu Linux version: 9.10.
Windows version: Vista Home Premium 64bit

    WordPress version: 2.8.5
    NextGEN Gallery info: –

Operating System : Linux (32 Bit)
    Server : Apache
    Memory usage : 15.76 MByte
    MYSQL Version : 5.0.85-community
    SQL Mode : Not set
    PHP Version : 5.2.5
    PHP Safe Mode : Off
PHP Allow URL fopen : On
    PHP Memory Limit : 32M
PHP Max Upload Size : 15M
PHP Max Post Size : 16M
PHP Output Buffer Size : N/A
PHP Max Script Execute Time : 120s
    PHP Exif support : No
    PHP IPTC support : Yes
    PHP XML support : Yes

Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Update: I should add that NextGen Gallery just says “0 images uploaded.” There is no specific error message.

I’ve figured out a workaround for Ubuntu, by adding images directly to NextGEN Gallery via FTP. NextGEN Gallery can create the thumbnails, but it’s the flash uploader that doesn’t work.

So if you’re having problem adding images to your Gallery while using Linux (as stated in my previous post, it works fine for me in Windows), here’s my workaround: –

    1. Create a new gallery (Gallery -> Add Gallery/Images).
    2. Using an FTP program (such as FileZilla), navigate to the gallery folder that you just created, and upload your images.
    3. Select all uploaded files, and set the permissions to 666 (this is needed to add names/descriptions via NextGEN Gallery).
    4. In NextGEN Gallery, scan your newly created gallery for the images you’ve just uploaded (Gallery -> Manage Gallery -> Select the gallery from the list -> Click “Scan folder for new images”).
    5. Create thumbnails for your freshly uploaded files (Tick each of the images you uploaded -> Choose “Create new thumbnails” from the drop down menu -> Click “Apply”).

You’ll now be able to modify the titles and descriptions of all images in your gallery, as well as embed them into posts/pages in the usual manner.
