[Plugin: NextGEN Scroll Gallery] caption / portrait image resizing issue

It seems I have to re-size the gallery height to 50px more than my image height if I want to display captions below the image rather that on top of them. ie. image size is 640×480 so I re-size gallery height to 530.

Which is fine (is it normal?). However, if the gallery is of portrait images (I use 360×480 for portrait images) then they get re-sized to the gallery height scaled to 398×530 which makes them look bad.
