Fatal error: Cannot redeclare register_setting() (previously declared in /home/thereddonv/www-gi/wp-includes/option.php:1871) in /home/thereddonv/www-gi/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 1779

You’ve apparently used files from different versions. You should do a manual update to version 4.7.

I cannot connect my sit to jetpack and am always getting a network error

and found in my site root on my sftp double files of everything but with (numbers) in paratheses in my wpadmin/includes file.
So, I started taking them off but realized that if our site was hacked that the files in the paratheses are the wp original ones that has been deactivated.

I restored a back up from 2 wks ago.

And those files are still there…

I have once before been put on a server by someone. But since I have been trying to hook up jetpack, I keep on getting network errors

Here is the link to see my the files on my sftp

Can someone tell me what this is all about?

    thanks

I’m also having this problem, and it is because of a WP 4.7 upgrade.

Long story short: It’s all my fault.

Slightly longer version: My site wasn’t updating a number of plugins automatically, including WP 4.7, Jetpack and a couple more. So I resorted to Manual and completely screwed up. Important: I had copied *some* of the 4.7 files.

A small number of files, including /wp-admin.php, did not upload because the file was busy/in use.

The site has since been restored and was displaying fine, though I couldn’t get to the admin login page (error). I’ve since copied (FTP’ed) the remaining files (as advised here -> https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Updating_WordPress).

    There were errors relating to files that weren’t there (in /wp-content), but those files have been uploaded and no longer exist. I do however get the following error when trying to view my site;

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare register_setting() (previously declared in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\gladesvillepandc.org\httpdocs\wordpress\wp-includes\option.php:1871) in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\gladesvillepandc.org\httpdocs\wordpress\wp-admin\includes\plugin.php on line 1788

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve asked for a restore from mid-last week (the site doesn’t change much), but being technical I’d rather beat this thing myself!

is your site a sub domain?

At this point, it’s probably best if you reinstall all WordPress files from scratch to avoid any issues.
