[Plugin: podPress] RSS Feed Validatation

    Hello,

    I believe our problem is similar to the one resolved in the Permalinks Feed thread started by Fireproofradiator and sdimbert, but after reading that thread I am still unable to figure out the PodPress RSS Feed for our podcast.

    I do understand from that thread that we need to have a post with a media file attached by PodPress in order to activate the feed. We now have one episode posted with an M4A audio file, but I don’t understand how to access the feed or how to validate it.

    The Feeds/iTunes Settings lists the feed address as:
    http://lulasapub.com/feed/podcast

    When I hit the Validate Your Feed button, I get “Server returned HTTP Error 404: Not Found”

    I also tried to activate a feed in the PodPress settings:
    http://lulasapub.com/feed/lulas_a_pubcast

    I checked the Activate Feed box and saved the settings, but again I get an Error 404 Page Not Found message.

    I also understand from the thread mentioned above that the Permalinks settings need to be re-saved at some point (at least for the extra PodPress settings feeds), but I’m unclear about when that needs to happen in the process.

    I assume that we’re missing just one step in this process, so any help assisting us through the steps would be greatly appreciated. My colleague has also set up a FeedBurner feed for the other posts on the blog, but I’m hoping to set up a separate feed for just the podcast posts.

    Hi Lula,

    you have not missed a step. But you have most likely renamed the slug name of the podPress Feed which has by default the slug name “podcast” to “lulas_a_pubcast”. So if you have no podPress Feed with the slug name “podcast” then your blog has no feed with URL http://lulasapub.com/feed/podcast and because of that the server returns a 404 error as it should.

    Your podcast feed is probably http://lulasapub.com/feed/lulas_a_pubcast
    You have done the saved the Permalink settings at the right time.

    but I’m unclear about when that needs to happen in the process.

    It is necessary to (re-)save the Permalink structure and the podPress Feed Buttons widget settings after the slug name of one of these Feeds has been modified OR after you have (de-)activated one of these Feeds.

    Thank you for your clarification, and yes I can now find
    http://lulasapub.com/feed/lulas_a_pubcast as the feed.

    One last question on a slightly different topic.

    I created the m4a file with GarageBand and added a description of the episode and an image of a Lula’s A Pubcast logo. But in the process of adding the file to a post using PodPress, when I check the ID3 tag info, the description is correct but a different image is there, not the Lula’s A Pubcast logo. The image is instead a default “Podcast Powered by PodPress and WordPress” image with Mighty Mouse.

    I had added the Lula’s a Pubcast logo in the Feed/iTunes settings under both “iTunes: Image” and the “Blog/RSS Image 144×144” input.

    When I subscribe to the feed using Google Reader/Google Listen, the Mighty Mouse image comes up instead of the Lula’s A Pubcast logo.

    How can I correct the ID3 tag image so that it is the Lula’s A Pubcast image that I embedded in the file rather than the Mickey Mouse default image. Or, how can I get the “iTunes: Image” or “Blog/RSS Image 144×144” image to show up instead of the Mickey Mouse image?

    Again, I really appreciate your help in this matter. As other have noted in this forum, you do a very good job getting back to all of us with your answers.

    If the picture with the mouse appears in this situation and at this place then it simply means that podPress was not able to retrieve the cover image. If your file would be a mp3 file then would be likely that the meta information in the file (ID3 tags) are somehow malformed.
    But in this case with this m4a file it means only that podPress is not able to retrieve the cover image (and show instead a placeholder).

    I have downloaded your episode and I can tell you that it includes a cover image and it showed up in iTunes and the Windows Media Player.
    That is way I would say that your file is fine.

    The cover image has nothing to do with the Feed image settings. Also podPress does not modify the media files.

    Furthermore I can say that the next Version of podPress will probably be able to find the cover images of m4a files.

    That is a different problem and will maybe resolve as time goes by. This application caches probably the feed images and you have probably subscribed to your feed at a time as the feed images have been the default ones.
    Now your feed images are configured right and I can see them in my feed reader (Firefox).
    I suggest that you wait or search for a way to clear the cache memory of this app. Changing the names of the image files might signal the app that the images have changed and that it is necessary to load them again. But this update process may take some days.

    Great, thank you again for your help. I’m glad that my question about the cover images of m4a files was helpful to you as well.

    I greatly appreciate your assistance and the extra effort to look at the feed in the different readers.
